The Shoei Neotec 3 is the high-end new Modular helmet for Touring & ADV riders from the Japanese quality brand Shoei. It is the successor to the immensely popular Neotec 2. The new Neotec 3 is tested according the new ECE22.06 standard. It has been completely renewed and improved in terms of the outer shell, aerodynamics, a renewed Pinlock visor, improved ventilation, an improved inner lining and better sound insulation. This makes it especially a Touring helmet that lends itself well to longer distances.
Shell Shoei Neotec 3
The Shoei Neotec 3 Touring Helmet features a 5 layer Advanced Integrated Matrix Shell (AIM) construction, just like its predecessor. This new shell consists of a laminate of 5 different layers. These 5 layers were required to obtain the strict ECE22.06 certification. AIM consists of a mixture of organic and synthetic fibers such as fiberglass. This not only makes the helmet very strong, but also keeps it particularly light.
The Neotec 3 comes in 7 sizes and 3 outer shell sizes. The number of 3 outer shell sizes is nice because this ensures that the helmet always fits compactly around the head. Not only is this more comfortable, it also looks better.
The Neotec 3 comes in 2 EPS inner shells, each with a multi-density structure. This multiple-density EPS means that the helmet is prepared for different kinds of impacts and that it provides an exceptionally good impact absorption which makes the helmet amongst the safest Modular Helmets available today. Shoei has also installed ventilation channels between these two EPS shells to optimize ventilation.
Comfort
The Shoei Neotec III is one of the most comfortable helmets in the market. It comes equipped with a 3D Max Dry lining. The new Neotec 3 features the 3D Center Pad. The new liner offers more comfort when putting on, and taking off the helmet. The renewed check pads come in different sizes (31 – 35 – 39mm). The liner features Noise Isolators, which do what the name suggests. They support the brilliant Noise Isolation of this helmet, making it one of the quietest helmets you can buy today.
Another small detail of unique craftsmanship are the extra soft material in the inner lining behind the ears. They made this extra soft because this area is extra sensitive and they want the rider to experience absolute comfort. Also new are the Ear Pads, that provide extra softness and comfort around the ears. The entire inner liner is anti-bacterial, removable and washable.
Shoei Neotec III Visor
Another improvement we find is the Shoei Neotec 3 Visor which is called the CNS-3C Visor. The Shoei CNS-3C visor is anti-scratch treated and offers a very wide field of View. The redesigned CNS3C Visor features Center Locking unlike its predecessor for easy handling and optimum sealing. This Center lock also reduces the risk of accidentally opening the visor.
The visor also ensures minimal optical distortion. In other words the view isn’t distorted by the curved shape of the visor. Furthermore we see the QSV-2 Sun-Visor on the Shoei Neotec 3 to block out any sun providing you an optimal riding comfort. Shoei almost always comes out very strongly in our Data Road Tests when we talk about the visor.
We also find a renewed spring mechanism on the Neotec 3 which pulls the visor tightly against the shell, keeping out the wind & noise even better than its predecessor did. One of the signs of pure quality is that that the visor – unlike its competitors – will stay open even at higher speeds. This is a clear sign of the quality and craftmanship of the visor mechanism on the Shoei Neotec 3. The visor mechanism also enables a quick and easy removal of the visor, with no need for any tools. All there is to it, is pulling the lever until you hear a little knack and you can take off the visor.
The Neotec 3 comes standard with a MaxVision Pinlock Evo lens in the box. This prevents the visor from condensing and always guarantees a clear view out on the road. Another improvement is that Shoei has placed the pins for the Pinlock further back. This has made the field of view larger and the area covered by the Pinlock lens also increased.
The NEOTEC 3 will compete against other High-end modular helmets such as the: HJC RPHA 91, Schuberth C5, Scorpion Exo-Tech EVO Carbon, AGV Tourmodular, X-Lite X-1005 Ultra Carbon, Shark EVO GT, Nolan N100-5 Plus, LS2 Advant-X Carbon and the Roof Boxxer Carbon.
Communication
Another interesting fact about the Neotec 3 is that it will be able to house the SRL3 also referred to as Shoei Comlink.
